Spyker Tourer

Spyker Tourer

The Dutch firm of Spyker was founded in 1880 by Jacobus and Hendrik-Jan Spijker to build and maintain horse-drawn coaches. In 1898 it built the "Golden Coach", one of the two coaches still used by the Dutch Royal Family on ceremonial occasions. In 1899 they started building motor cars, including the 14/18HP of 1906 which is the subject of this model. The company had many financial problems and changed ownership several times until it finally closed in 1926.

The company's name became well-known in the 1950s when a 12/16HP of 1905 was used as the "other car" in the 1953 film "Genevieve" which showed an unofficial race between two veteran cars, the eponymous car being a 1904 Darracq. Since this "race" back to London follows the cars' participation in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, there is a slight anomaly in the use of a 1905 Spyker, as the official run is only open to cars built before 1905.

The model was designed by Milan Novobilský and first published by ABC in 2004.

The model is to scale 1:32, and is very finely-drawn on two of the six pages in the PDF file. The file also contains one page of Czech text describing the prototype, two pages of textual instructions and one of diagrams.
